Today’s modern architecture for commercial building façades is taking a new dimension with all glass design with an objective to have better views, more natural light & sense of openers in the built environment. The reality check to this architectural approach is glass on the building transmits more heat than useful light. To add to this is glass problem. Heat + Glare increases air conditioning load & discomfort. To overcome the above problems, building users install different sizes of blinds thereby blocking the natural light and increasing the electrical energy consumption.

To address the aforementioned problem, Skyshade has developed and patented light shelves products by name Skyshelves-D and Skyshelves –R which help in the redirection of daylight (sunlight) into the interior space of the building and industrial structures along with reducing the heat and glare thereby helping the users to use the space with natural daylight.
Skyshelves – D
Skyshelves D, is one of the patented light shelve product from Skyshade, an answer to larger façade buildings with its sunlight redirection films or panels, increasing the daylight penetration up to 30 to 40 feet from window. Skyshade utilizes natural light and redirects the daylight (sunlight) from windows to the ceiling or roof, thus, making the interiors brighter and serves the purpose of having a glass facade to the building.

Skyshelves – R
Skyshelves-R is a sunlight redirection film or panel, giving diffused light with 90% vision thereby rejecting incident solar radiation up to 90%. Skyshelves-R panels are fixed over the vision part of the large windows and glass facades. The angular Solar radiation is rejected during most of the day reducing the glare and heat.
Low Angle Sunlight
Low angle sunlight into the building is observed in the early morning and late evenings. The daylight penetration is observed as shown in the image
High Angle Sunlight
High angle sunlight into the building is observed between 9AM to 5PM IST. The rejection of heat and daylight penetration is observed as shown in the image

Lighting Automation With Electrical/LED Lighting And Light Shelves
Skyshade has developed daylighting sensors and smart lighting controls which help integrate with Electrical/LED lighting with light shelves or Skyshelves. This advanced technology help switch to electric lighting to compensate when there are low daylighting levels outside. Skyshade develops and installs the sensors that monitor the areas which have low level of lighting. The sensors don’t acquire much space to install but, necessary to install in the major area/zone of the building.
